A little History

      Alligator Technologies first released the AAF-3 in 1994 and it quickly became our most popular product.   Some of these boards have been in operation for as long and are still being actively used.  We have made continual improvements to the AAF-3 and the subsystem daughter boards during this period.  We think the AAF-3PWR power section retrofit upgrade is a significant improvement.

Compatibility

       Can I replace the power supply on my AAF-3 board?  The AAF-3PWR retrofit upgrade is compatible to nearly all AAF-3 mother boards.

Performance

       Why should I upgrade the power supply section if my AAF-3 is working fine?  We believe in the principal, “if it works, don’t fix it”.  Our retrofit upgrade offer was born when we took a new approach to the power supply design for the new AAF-3PCI, a PCI bus compatible version of the AAF-3.  We wanted to improve upon the ripple in the power supply voltage that is present in nearly all “off-the-shelf” DC to DC converters on the market.  In the new design we fully isolated the analog power section through transformers and then fine tuned the switching driver feedback to reduce the ripple below our measurement capabilities.  The performance of this new power supply section is outstanding.  We also noticed that the old power converters we used on the AAF-3 were failing over time at a statistically large occurrence.  It was a relatively simple design step to create a piggy back board with the new power supply design that would line up with the voltage input and output points on the AAF-3 and make a drop-in replacement for the AAF-3 power section.  By offering the AAF-3PWR we eliminate the largest point of failure on the AAF-3 and improve the operational performance at the same time.  Perhaps you have an old AAF-3 that has stopped working.   The AAF-3PWR power supply retrofit upgrade will restore new life to that AAF-3.

 Cost

      The cost of the AAF-3PWR retrofit upgrade is $200 + shipping costs and includes a one year parts and labor warranty covering the new power supply section.  The upgrade takes about an hour and we process the upgrade through our repair queue.  The repair queue is nearly always empty.  In all likelihood, we can upgrade your AAF-3 within 24 hours.   This is not a limited time offer.  You will have the flexibility to choose the right moment for the upgrade.
